Akbar Golpaygani (Golpa) — Biography

Golpa (Akbar Golpaygani, 1934–2023) was an Iranian classical singer. Born in Tehran, he developed his vocal technique through study with musicians including Nour-Ali Boroumand, Abolhassan Saba, Abdollah Davami and Adib Khansari. An invitation from Davoud Pirnia brought him to radio and the Golhaye Javidan programme, establishing a central platform for his career. He spent seventeen years contributing to the Golha programmes before giving greater attention to song-based repertoire. International appearances and collaborations with Persian instrumentalists extended his work beyond broadcasting. In a 2022 interview with Radio Farda, he called for honouring the old masters and supporting young musicians.
