Hamed Nikpay — Biography

Hamed Nikpay is an Iranian singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist whose work explores connections between Persian singing and other musical traditions. He began singing at seven and later studied tar and setar, adding tanbur, oud and daf to his instruments. Training with musicians including Hooshang Zarif and Dariush Pirniakan, followed by composition studies, provided the foundation for his professional work. After performing and recording in Iran, he continued his career in the United States. All Is Calm brought his Persian melodies together with flamenco guitar and became the focus of a North American tour. His vocal approach also draws on Iranian regional melodies, improvisation and carefully selected Persian poetry.
