Babak Amini is an Iranian guitarist and composer whose work spans flamenco, jazz and Persian pop. Born in Tehran, he began studying guitar with Shahrokh Partovi at ten and later continued with Simon Ayvazian. He entered professional music at eighteen and released his debut album, Gray Rain, in 1990. His subsequent work with Googoosh extended from recording to arranging and directing her touring orchestra. After moving to Canada in 2000, he developed an independent concert career alongside teaching. Collaborations with Faramarz Aslani and work in jazz-oriented ensembles broadened his performing experience. Composition, arrangement and guitar education have remained parallel strands of his career.
